We don’t know about you but we love having a pre-dinner snack routine. One of our go-to recipes has been the Cilantro-Jalapeño hummus to keep us company during our board game sessions during this lockdown. It is so easy to make, tastes awesome, and only requires existing ingredients from your pantry!
Last month, before the COVID-19 situation, we visited Midtown Olive Oil, sampled and got some premium-quality olive oils and vinegar that we have been using in our everyday cooking. Midtown Olive Oil has a great line up of extra virgin olive oils (EVOO), speciality oils (white truffle olive oil anyone?), flavored balsamic vinegars, and gourmet seasonings. One of things we loved about Midtown Olive Oil was that all bottles are filled and sealed right in front of you, and you can bring your cleaned bottles back for a refill and get a new seal, label, cork, and a discount!
This hummus uses a copious amount of EVOO from Midtown Olive Oil, and adds so much depth to the flavor. Obviously, we want to share the recipe with you all so you can enjoy some righteous hummus in the comfort of your own home.

Ingredients
1 can chickpeas (washed & rinsed; save water from the can)
1 tbls tahini (optional)
1/2 bunch of cilantro (washed and roughly chopped)
1 jalapeño (use 1/2 if you don’t want it spicy)
2 cloves of garlic
2 tbls Midtown Olive Oil (1.5 tbls blending + 0.5 tbls garnish)
1/2 a lemon, freshly squeezed
1 tsp sea salt (more, if needed)
1 tbls of aquafaba (canned chickpea water)
Directions
- Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor or a high speed blender.
- Top it with a generous spoonful of Midtown olive oil.
- Enjoy it with some crackers, pita or fresh vegetables. You can even use it as a sandwich spread. Let your creativity flow!
