Dining out at Tesoro Carrboro

PASTA, PASTA, PASTA!

Hey y’all! It’s Sree and Sriram, and we are back after a long hiatus with a brand new blog post sharing about Tesoro Carrboro and all the things we ate there! Fun fact, we actually googled the word “Tesoro” and found out that it means “Treasure”! Well, we’re sure glad we found this treasure because we sure hit the jackpot!

Tesoro’s intimate 18-seater indoor space will welcome you with the hustle and bustle of their kitchen churning out seasonal salads and fresh handmade pastas faster than you can say “Mamma Mia”! If you get a chance, sit at the counter across from the chef so you can see all the food being made in action! Alright, we’ll cut to the chase and share about all the things we ate there!

We started our meal with a couple of vinos, farmer’s market bibb lettuce salad, and piping hot arancini.

The arancini, wine, and salad set the tone right for our main course. We didn’t want to load up on too many appetizers, but we couldn’t stop ourselves from trying as many vegetarian options as possible.

When we looked at the menu for the main pasta dishes, we thought “the more the merrier”, and got three different types of pastas; spaghetti aglio e olio (garlic and oil), bucatini cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper), and rigatoni with eggplant, tomatoes, and ricota salata. Talk about a wholesome meal!

Freshly made pastas were meticulously portioned out and cooked to order. When our pasta arrived at our table, we waited no time in getting a spoonful (or a forkful!) from each plate. We’re not kidding when we say that this is one of the best Italian meals we have had in a while! The cacio e pepe was easily our favorite plate of the night.

Though we were full from all that delicious pasta, we wanted a sweet ending and ended up getting the fior di latte gelato ice cream, a simple yet exceptional combination of milk, cream, and sugar to finish our meal. Their menu is small, but their portion sizes are sharable, and most of their offerings are seasonal. They also offer a couple of specials on the appetizers and desserts that are not typically listed on the menu, so be sure to ask your server!

After this meal, all we could think of was making our next trip to Tesoro ASAP! We highly, highly recommend making reservations well in advance, though they also allow walk-ins.
